Richie Kyle says the intensity and tempo of last night’s Checkatrade Trophy group stage victory at Accrington Stanley was exactly what the players needed.
The Seasiders’ made nine changes for the match and saw Danny Philliskirk and Max Clayton get on the score-sheet.
Speaking post-match, for the final time before leaving the club, here’s what Pool’s first-team coach had to say…
Important to win.
I thought it was a pleasing performance, getting the win is important. I thought first-half we passed the ball really well but had a five-minute spell where we went a bit sloppy. At half-time we spoke about keeping the ball and playing with a tempo.
We were under pressure second-half, in stages, but the lads dug in, stuck in there and we got the win. That’s the most important aspect of any football match.
Valuable minutes for players.
For the lads that needed minutes it was a good intensity and a great tempo. It’s exactly what they needed. We’re going to need some of these lads because we’ve not got the biggest of squads in the league so these lads will be called upon at some stage and will need to be ready.
First goal for Max Clayton.
For him to get his goal will just bring confidence. He’s a boy with a lot of ability and hopefully now he can kick on and score more goals in his Blackpool career.
Bowing out with a win.
I’ve been at the club a long time now and I wanted to come into this game and leave with a victory under my belt. I’m glad I’ve been able to do that.
