Gary Bowyer was understandably delighted with the way Blackpool performed in a 3-1 victory against Oxford United.
Two goals from Kyle Vassell and one from Callum Cooke ensured that The Seasiders extended their unbeaten run in Sky Bet League One to seven matches.
Speaking post-match, here’s what the manager had to say…
I’m delighted. I thought the way that we went about the game, against a very strong Oxford team, was there for all to see. In the first-half, again, we were outstanding, played some great stuff and scored some good goals. My only criticism would be that we didn’t score more with the opportunities that we had.
We knew that Oxford would come at us second-half, which they did, and I was delighted with how we went about the second-half because we learnt from the Oldham game. It made it a bit tight for us at the end with conceding the goal, but the response and the character from them again was just fantastic.
Three more goals from outside the box, including a brace for Vassell.
All three were wonderful strikes. I think Kyle Vassell has been a little bit jealous of Longy (Sean Longstaff) scoring from that range. His first one today has seen him chase the ball in the channel superbly well, and he’s unleashed a hell of a shot with his left foot. Then at the end he smacks one in with his right foot. The power he has in both feet is incredible.
Seven points from nine this week.
It was a tough week, travelling to two games and then facing the quality of Oxford to have a return of seven from nine is a fantastic effort by the players. But that week is gone now and we’ve got to recover, get ready for training and work hard again next week for the game at Bristol Rovers.
