Gary Bowyer says the next two games will present an ideal opportunity for Christoffer Mafoumbi to impress between the sticks for Blackpool.
The Congo international will end the campaign in goal for the club following Joe Lumley’s return to QPR.
Having featured four times this season, including twice in the league at the start of the year, there is plenty of confidence in the 24-year-old stepping up to perform.
“In the two league games that Chris played I thought he did ever so well, and they were both away games. It’ll be good for him on Saturday to play here at home,” manager Gary Bowyer said.
“He’s had to be patient and he’s another one that wants the number one jersey. It’ll be really interesting for us to see how he does. We’ve got every confidence in him, based on what we see day-to-day in training.”
Meanwhile, Bowyer has heaped further praise on departing goalkeeper Joe Lumley, who kept nine clean sheets in 18 appearances for The Seasiders.
“The biggest compliment I can give him is that if he was here all season then he’d be up for Player of the Year. That’s the impact he’s had since he’s been with us. He goes with our blessing and we wish him well,” he added.
