Gary Bowyer felt his Blackpool side made hard work of their victory at Gillingham this afternoon, despite recording a 3-0 scoreline.
Goals from Kyle Vassell, Nathan Delfouneso and Kelvin Mellor secured the three points, as The Seasiders made it four league victories on the spin.
Speaking post-match, here's what the manager had to say...
Making it hard work.
I thought we just made the game so hard for ourselves, it shouldn’t have been as hard as we made it. I’m delighted with the goals we scored though because we always score good goals. In the first-half I enjoyed watching us, but in the second-half it was painful and it shouldn’t have been.
Four consecutive victories and the support.
That’s the first time since 2010 that a Blackpool team has won four on the trot. We also wish the supporters well and a safe journey home because they were brilliant again today. Their support has been greatly appreciated.
First league appearance in 14 months for Jim McAlister.
We were able to get Jim McAlister back on the pitch, which was fantastic. It’s been over a year since he featured in a league game. I’m delighted for him to get back.
Achievement of securing divisional safety, in comparison to last season’s promotion.
This is better. We had less time recruitment wise than everybody else and obviously with what has gone off away from the pitch, the players haven’t been distracted. For them to be where they are now, with the performances they’ve put in and the type of football we’ve asked them to play, which is different from last year, is a magnificent achievement from them and the staff.
