First-half goals from Brendan O’Brien and Owen Watkinson gave the youth team a two-goal lead that they wouldn’t relinquish against Wrexham.
Blackpool started the better side in the game, as the rain came pouring down at Colliers Park. Watkinson came close early on, hitting the bar with a deflected shot.
Fin Sinclair-Smith then had an effort saved by Dane Rigby, before O’Brien struck to give the visitors the lead. His volleyed effort came down off the crossbar, eventually being given by the officials.
Wrexham’s first real chance came just before the half-hour mark, as Niall Freeman was set free. However, he dragged his shot wide of the far post.
The final action of the first-half saw Watkinson double Blackpool’s advantage. Nathan Shaw got down the left wing, before pulling the ball back to Watkinson, who slid the ball into the far corner with a first time shot.
Half-Time: Wrexham 0 Blackpool 2
Watkinson then came off at the break, with Will Dunne coming on for the visitors.
Wrexham started to gain momentum though, as they looked to mount a comeback.
Tom Williams had to slide across to block a goal bound shot, before Ben Jacobson made a goal-saving tackle. Bobby Beaumont also blazed a volley over the bar from close range.
After Emil Jaaskelainen came on for Fin Sinclair-Smith on the hour mark, Nana Adarkwa forced a smart save out of Dane Rigby, who kept the score at 2-0.
Adarkwa then came off, replaced by Sean Graham, which moved Nathan Shaw across to the right wing. He then almost made it three late on, but he dragged his shot wide after cutting inside on his favoured left foot.
