Calm and Composed Lumley Impresses Manager

Goalkeeper Keeps Fourth Clean Sheet Against Portsmouth

26 February 2018

Manager Gary Bowyer has lavished praise on goalkeeper Joe Lumley following another commanding display between the sticks.

The on-loan QPR man didn’t have many saves to make in Blackpool’s 2-0 victory at Portsmouth on the weekend, however his presence and decision making proved key to the clean sheet.

“He’s played superbly again without having a great deal to do,” Bowyer said. “The calmness he brings, knowing that he’s coming for crosses, especially against Portsmouth with the height of Hawkins, Burgess and Clark from set-plays, was so important and he executed it perfectly. He’s going to be a top, top goalkeeper in my opinion.”

Meanwhile, Bowyer has confirmed that midfielder Sean Longstaff missed the fixture at Fratton Park after sustaining a knock to his hip in training. The 20-year-old is expected to return for Saturday’s match against Northampton Town, though.
