Blackpool Chairman Karl Oyston has issued the following statement following the passing of Jimmy Armfield earlier today:
“It is a very sad day for Blackpool Football Club, the town of Blackpool and the game of football. Jimmy is a legend in every sense of the word and his presence will be irreplaceable. He was a one-club man who absolutely loved wearing the tangerine shirt and his achievements extended way beyond the football pitch. He was a fantastic ambassador for the community and the many charities he represented.
Jimmy leaves behind an incredible legacy and on behalf of everyone at the club, I send my sincere condolences to Jimmy’s wife Anne, his two sons, Duncan and John, and the rest of the Armfield family.
On a personal note, he’s been an immense support and counsel in good times and bad and I’ll miss him greatly.”
