An agreement has been reached between Blackpool and Newcastle United for Sean Longstaff to extend his loan stay with the club until the end of the season.
The midfielder, whose initial loan agreement was due to expire on Saturday, has scored six goals in 26 appearances for The Seasiders, including four consecutively at the start of the campaign.
A number of the 20-year-old’s strikes have already been Goal of the Season contenders, while his overall playing qualities have been well suited to Blackpool’s style of play.
Manager Gary Bowyer said:
“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to get the deal done, and I’d like to thank Newcastle for allowing Sean to continue his development with us. He’s benefitting from playing week in, week out and he’s got six goals, which is an incredible return for someone of his age.
“He’s still growing and if you’d have took a picture of him when he first arrived to a picture of him now, you’d see the development in his body as well. When he does finally grow into his body and gets the power there, he is going to be some player.”
Sean Longstaff added:
“I’ve enjoyed my time here so far, I’ve played or been a part of pretty much every game apart from two, I think. It’s been perfect for me, I’ve settled in really well, all the lads are great and all the staff have been great with me.
“I’m happy to get it over the line and I’m looking forward to the second half of the season.”
