Spearing: Bitterly Disappointed

Midfielder On Performance and Defeat At Oxford

7 January 2018

Jay Spearing says the players were ‘bitterly disappointed’ to leave Oxford without taking anything from the game yesterday.

The Seasiders put in a strong display at The Kassam Stadium, dictating the tempo and creating numerous chances, however a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing proved costly, as did the free-kick conceded in the 82nd minute.

“It was one of those days where we’ve dominated from the first minute to the end. Some of us switch off in the set-piece, which we thought we’d got past the stage of doing that, and that has cost us. We’re bitterly disappointed in the way we’ve come away with nothing,” Spearing admitted.

“We started off the new year in great style with a great away victory and even coming here we knew it was going to be tough but from the first minute, from the get-go, we dominated the play, dominated the first, second balls and created more chances.

“The ‘keeper has made a load of great saves but we’ve had enough chances to put the ball in the back of the net.”
