Blackpool’s fine, pre-season form continued with a 1-0 victory at Port Vale this afternoon.
The forward scored the only goal of the game with just five minutes on the clock, racing clear and slotting past Vale ‘keeper Scott Brown, despite appeals for offside from the home supporters.
The hosts almost hit back immediately, however a lobbed effort was headed off the line by defender Curtis Tilt.
Louis Dodds struck the side netting in Vale’s attempts to equalise, while Scott Quigley, on loan from Blackpool, blocked a team-mate’s attempt innocuously on the line.
The Seasiders looked a threat on the counter through Joe Dodoo and Nathan Delfouneso, but the rest of the first-half passed by without any other meaningful opportunities.
Armand Gnanduillet, who recently made a return to the club, came close to adding a second for Blackpool after the interval. The striker received the ball to feet from Joe Bunney, spun his marker and rattled the outside of the post.
Paudie O’Connor, Michael Nottingham, and Ryan McLaughlin were all introduced at stages in the second-half, and it was the latter who watched his clipped cross hacked away from the goal-line.
Gnanduillet and Delfouneso both saw further efforts blocked, prior to the goalscorer going off with an injury. Jordan Thompson was the man to replace him.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Mark Cullen and Marc Bola were on target as Blackpool recorded a 2-1 victory at Nantwich Town. The pair were joined in the side by Christoffer Mafoumbi, Nick Anderton and Harry Pitchard, as well as a number of trialists.
