Gary Bowyer says the dressing room quickly dedicated the 1-0 victory against Charlton Athletic this evening to Nathan Delfouneso.
The forward was stretchered off following a nasty looking head clash in the first-half and has since been taken to hospital.
In his absence, the team continued push forward for a big three points and got them thanks to a 91st minute winner from Jimmy Ryan.
Speaking post-match, here’s what the manager had to say…
Ryan winner in team performance.
When there’s a last-minute winner there’s always an individual who gets highlighted. He was terrific tonight and has been terrific for us, but it was a massive squad effort and I’m absolutely delighted with it.
Reward for perseverance.
From minute one we were straight on the front foot and I think we’ve had over 20 goal attempts. We were terrific tonight. The way that they’ve played, on a very difficult surface don’t forget, they just got on with it.
Back to winning ways at home.
I’m immensely proud because it has been a long time coming, and people have been ramming it down our throats that we haven’t won here for a long time. You saw the desire that I spoke about before the game to put it right.
Nathan Delfouneso’s condition following head clash.
I’ve not had the latest but I was aware that he’s gone to hospital. The boys were brilliant and dedicated the win to Nathan. We’re still to find out more, but it was a sickening blow.
