Rowan Roache will miss Blackpool’s FA Youth Cup semi-final, first leg tie against Arsenal tomorrow night due to international commitments.
The forward has been named in the Republic of Ireland under-19 squad for the UEFA European Championship Elite Round qualifiers in Portugal.
The qualifiers get underway from Wednesday, with Ireland facing Slovakia, Kosovo and Portugal over a six-day period.
Given the importance of Blackpool’s FA Youth Cup tie, the club did make a request for Roache to link-up with his country after the game, however that has not proved possible.
“We asked them if we could keep him for this game but unfortunately we couldn’t, which is disappointing. The rules are the rules I’m afraid,” first-team manager Gary Bowyer said.
The match at Bloomfield Road tomorrow gets underway from 7pm, with free admission for season ticket holders. Entry for non-season ticket holders is priced at £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.
“All the first-team players will be there, and it’s going to be a great night for them,” Bowyer insisted. “I’m sure John and Dawesy will have the lads really fired up for it.”
