Ollie Turton says winning the Players’ Player of the Year award has capped off a great season for him personally.
The versatile right-back, who has also operated down the left, has been a consistent performer throughout the campaign and has featured 40 times in the league.
Having arrived from Crewe Alexandra in the summer, the 25-year-old initially expected to bide his time for a place in the side due to Kelvin Mellor occupying the same position.
“I didn’t think I’d play as much as I would because of how well Kelvin has done. It was unlucky for the team and him that he got injured and that paved the way for me to play. I’d like to say I’ve took my chance and I’ve had a successful season,” Turton said.
The recognition from his team-mates earlier this week is something that has made him feel very proud.
“I was chuffed to bits with it. They see you train every day and play with you week in, week out and realise what you do for the team.
“A lot of players could have won that award, I thought, but luckily enough it was me,” he added.
