Match Preview: Macclesfield Town

Checkatrade Trophy Campaign Starts Tonight

4 September 2018

Blackpool's first Checkatrade Trophy group stage fixture takes place at Macclesfield Town tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

The match at Moss Rose will be the first of three for The Seasiders in Northern Group C, with home games against West Bromwich Albion's Under-21s and Accrington Stanley to follow in October and November, respectively.

Tonight's hosts celebrated promotion to Sky Bet League Two in April, though they have since had a change of manager following John Askey's move to Shrewsbury Town.

Former Cheltenham Town and Solihull Moors boss Mark Yates is the man now tasked with continuing the club's progress.

Team News:

Callum Guy could be set for a Blackpool debut, having joined the club from Derby County on Friday. Ryan McLaughlin is also edging closer to coming into contention after injury, however Jimmy Ryan has suffered a setback in his attempts to recover from a knee problem.

Town, who participate in this competition for the first time in six years, will be without Jordan Ponticelli after the striker fractured his metatarsal against Crewe on the weekend. Ryan Lloyd and Elliott Durrell also miss out.
