Michael Nottingham insists Blackpool will head to Barnsley this weekend in confident spirits after Monday’s last-gasp win over Fleetwood Town.
The Seasiders have shown strong form against all the top teams on the road and will be aiming to cause an upset against a Barnsley side currently in the automatic promotion spots.
“It’s going to be tough, but it’s one of those games that you’ve been looking forward to all season,” he said. “We’ll go there in full spirits and be confident. It’s important for us to try and finish on a high.”
Having played particularly well at leaders Luton Town earlier this month, a similar performance will be required at Oakwell.
“It’s similar circumstances, isn’t it? They’re a good team and they’re pushing for it obviously. It isn’t going to be easy, but I’m very confident in terms of what we can do, and we’ll go there trying to get the three points.”
Though three points would be most welcome as Blackpool look to finish as high as possible in the league table, there is also a sense of disappointment that the season hasn’t fully resulted in a play-off challenge.
“It’s been good at times, but obviously it could have been a little bit better. We’ve got a very good squad and it’s been very competitive, but I just feel like some of the results have been going on the wrong side. There’s loads of positives to take from it, but loads of improvements as well.
“It’s still been a good season, though, and hopefully we can build on it for the next one now.”
