Manager Simon Grayson was pleased to mark the opening day of the season with a good performance and result.
Goals from Jay Spearing and Armand Gnanduillet helped get the Seasiders up and running with a 2-0 victory against Bristol Rovers, as thousands of fans returned for the start of a new era.
“You’re delighted with the performance, the two goals and the clean sheet. You couldn’t ask for much more than that,” the manager said.
“There are still things that we’re going to need to work on throughout the course of the season, but it’s a good start and a platform. You always want to try and start with a positive result, and we’ve gone and done that today.”
Given the occasion, Grayson reserved special praise for the supporters, who sang loud and proud throughout the 90 minutes.
“It was a fantastic atmosphere. I stressed to the players that we needed to give them something to cheer about and get them on the edge of their seats. We now want to feel and sample more occasions like today with them,” he added.
