The under-18s opened their 2019-20 Youth Alliance campaign yesterday by drawing 3-3 at Morecambe.
Despite coming back from behind to lead in the match, the hosts replied twice to leave the Seasiders settling for a point.
It took until just before half-time for the game to see its first goal. A Morecambe throw bounced over the Blackpool defence and fell to Jack Greenwood, who lifted the ball over Sam Kellett and into the net.
After the break, Blackpool came out a different side. Ewan Bange received the ball on the edge of the area and squared it to Tony Weston, who took a touch and fired low into the bottom corner to bring Blackpool level.
Bange was then presented with an opportunity to put the under-18s ahead, with Rob Apter winning the side a penalty. Bange stepped up and converted from the spot.
Moments later, Morecambe equalised. A cross from Cole Edwards on the left was put into the box, only for the ball to come off Harry Winstanley’s head and past Kellett for an own goal.
The Seasiders didn’t take long to respond, though. Apter drifted into the area from the right and laid the ball to Bange, he shrugged off his man and smashed the ball past Harry O’Brien in the Shrimps goal.
Now looking to hold out for the victory, Blackpool were dealt a blow when the referee blew for a Morecambe penalty in added time, having spotted a foul from a free-kick. Price stepped up for the home side and slotted the ball into the bottom corner to earn Morecambe a point.
