Blackpool gained a crucial point on the road, following a 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
Matty Virtue gave the Seasiders the lead after just four minutes with a wonderful effort from distance but Charlie Wyke cancelled out the goal with ten minutes of the first half remaining.
The Stadium of Light was stunned as Blackpool took an early lead with just four minutes gone thanks to Virtue’s wonder strike.
A cross on the right hand side from Feeney was headed away and fell to Virtue on the edge of the area who controlled his effort and unleashed a curling effort into the top corner.
The home side had to soak up a good amount of pressure as Blackpool were really in their stride in the first half, but just couldn’t find that elusive second goal. Sunderland rarely threatened in the opening 45 minutes yet found themselves level with ten minutes to go.
A corner kick was swung in from the right hand side and Charlie Wyke beat James Husband to the ball to stab it home at the near post.
The equaliser didn’t waiver Blackpool’s confidence and were so unlucky to not retake the lead minutes later. A first time effort was hit by James Husband and it was heading straight to goal but for Armand Gnanduillet who was stood on the goal line and the ball bounced off him and out for a goal kick.
Half-Time: Sunderland 1 Blackpool 1
Simon Grayson made a half-time change ahead of the start of the second half - Sean Scannell coming on for Sullay Kaikai.
It was a difficult second half with neither side able to dictate the play in the first 20 minutes or so. Nathan Delfouneso did have a good half chance on 55 minutes after being put through but for a last ditch challenge from Laurens De Bock.
At the other end, Charlie Wyke almost gave Sunderland the lead following another corner but his header smacked against the crossbar.
With 74 minutes on the clock, Sunderland’s George Dobson was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Armand Gnanduillet and the home side were reduced to ten men for the final 15 minutes of the tie.
Despite the man advantage, Blackpool just couldn’t find that all important winner and ultimately had to settle for a good point on the road.
