Blackpool Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of its former forward Fred Pickering at the age of 78.
Fred moved to Bloomfield Road from Birmingham City in 1969 and spent two seasons in tangerine, scoring 24 league goals in 49 appearances.
He wrote his name in Blackpool folklore when he hit a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory against rivals Preston North End in 1970, which subsequently promoted The Seasiders to the First Division and effectively relegated the Lilywhites.
Capped on three occasions for England, he also played for Blackburn Rovers, Everton and Birmingham City during his career.
Our condolences go out to Fred's family at this time.
