Blackpool Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Matty Virtue for an undisclosed fee from Liverpool.
An energetic box-to-box midfielder, the 21-year-old has captained The Reds’ under-23 side this season and scored six goals in Premier League 2.
He has put pen-to-paper on a two-and-half year deal at Bloomfield Road and will wear shirt number 17.
Born in Epsom, Virtue moved to Anfield from Chelsea in his junior years and spent last season on loan at Notts County, where he featured 15 times as the club pushed for promotion.
Though he departs Liverpool without making a first-team appearance, he has trained on numerous occasions with Jurgen Klopp’s side
Manager Terry McPhillips said:
“We’ve watched him for a long time and all the staff know him. Everyone you speak to says what a good lad he is.
“He’s a box-to-box midfield player that does a bit of everything. But the main ingredient is that he’s a great kid that trains hard every day and plays as he trains. We’re really excited to bring him on board.”
Matty Virtue added:
“I’m very happy to finally get it over the line and get it done. It’s something I’ve known about for a month or so and I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to get started.
“I’ve learnt loads at Liverpool and have loved my time there. Now it’s time to go and get my career started.”
