McPhillips: Pair Will Be Back

Manager Reveals Tilt and Turton Are Training Again

17 January 2019

Terry McPhillips has revealed that two Blackpool players are set to return from injury this weekend, while Nick Anderton and Chris Long will be aiming to build on their performances at Portsmouth.

The manager met with the media this morning to discuss his squad options ahead of Saturday’s home fixture against Shrewsbury Town.

Here’s what he had to say…

On Nick Anderton’s loan return…

It was just what Nick needed, going to Accrington and playing those games. He might not have played those games if he had stayed with us because of Marc Bola in such form and the competition at centre-half.

Nick’s always had the potential, he just needed to go on and play. He’s done that and come back for the one game and been outstanding. We’re so pleased to have him back.

Long challenged to back up debut goal…

All he thinks about when we’re training is scoring goals. If he can’t score, then he’ll be thinking about setting somebody up. We haven’t got enough of those types that just think ‘goal, goal, goal’. He definitely does that and we’re hoping that he backs that up now with more goals in the coming weeks.

Tilt and Turton back in contention…

They’ll be in the squad and have been training today (Thursday) and will tomorrow, all being well. It will be good to have those two back.

In the sticky patch we’ve had, we’ve had some good players missing. You miss your best players and we’ve also not had the best of luck. We’ll get the lads back and the new faces in – Nick, Longy and Nya are new faces – and hopefully there’ll be another new face to come.
