Terry McPhillips had a watching brief for Shrewsbury Town’s Emirates FA Cup fightback at Stoke in midweek, as he took the opportunity to take a closer look at tomorrow’s opposition.
Though he admitted that an extra-time scenario would have been beneficial for The Seasiders, he was suitably impressed by Shrewsbury’s second-half transformation.
“Second-half they did really well, they changed their shape. They were 2-0 down and they hadn’t had much of the ball in the first-half, but then bang, bang, bang, three goals in 10 minutes. Fair play to them, they did much better and scored some good goals,” the manager said.
While this weekend’s visitors had the task of taking on Championship opposition on Tuesday night, Blackpool have been able to utilise a free week on the training ground
“It’s an advantage that they played the game midweek against a bigger team, but confidence is massive and they’ll gain great confidence from that victory at Stoke,“ McPhillips admitted.
“We need to try and back that Portsmouth performance up with a win against Shrewsbury.”
