Chris Mafoumbi has revealed that he had no hesitation in answering Blackpool’s SOS call and returning to Bloomfield Road from international duty.
The goalkeeper, who was waiting for a flight from Paris, headed back to English shores to replace the injured Mark Howard between the sticks.
Howard is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, having suffered a similar injury to that of Mafoumbi earlier in his own career.
“I was supposed to go and I was waiting for going, then there was the injury to Mark Howard. After that, I just decided to come back and help the team for the next games. I was still in Paris when they called me,“ the 25-year-old explained.
“I did the same injury as him three years ago so I know what it is. It takes long to recover but I know that Mark will come back great.
“You know that when a player is injured, a chance will come. It’s up to me to take my chance and play well.”
The Congo stopper certainly played well against Bradford City last weekend, denying Eoin Doyle from the penalty spot. The only disappointment was conceded a goal in added time, which left Mafoumbi particularly unhappy.
“I was a little bit mad after this, but the most important thing is to win the game. If we can get the clean sheet, it is better for me, the defenders and everyone.
“Now we have to give the same performance as last week for this next important game.”
