Matty Virtue was delighted to play his part in a four-goal display away to Bradford City, as Blackpool recorded their biggest win of the season.
The midfielder, signed from Liverpool in January, admitted it was good for the team to find the net so often, having drawn a blank in two of their last three away outings.
“It’s a nice feeling to score four goals,” he said. “We’ve been struggling to score goals recently so to put four in the back of the net, especially away from home, makes us very happy.”
One of those goals came from the 21-year-old himself, who broke from his own half and then unleashed a 25-yard effort into the back of the net.
“Jay won it back, then we broke. Someone was coming up on my left and I was just waiting for him to come round me so that I could slide him in,” he explained.
“The defender opened it up and allowed me to shoot so I thought, ‘why not’ and I caught it quite well. Next minute, it’s in the back of the net.”
Having done so well from an attacking point of view, the only disappointment was to concede a goal in added time.
“We’ve got a fantastic set of defenders there and they are obviously gutted, and as a team we’re gutted to concede because we like our clean sheet record.
“We still don’t want that to take away from what a performance it was, though,” he added.
