Ewan Bange stepped up his development by making his debut for Blackpool in the Leasing.com Trophy against Carlisle United.
The youth team striker, who has played for the under-18s since he was 15, appeared off the bench for the final 19 minutes and almost found the net.
“We wanted to give him that opportunity,” manager Simon Grayson said. “Probably the easiest thing was to bring on one of the more experienced players and go to another system, but we wanted to see what he’s capable of doing.
“I thought he held the ball up well and that chance just got stuck under his feet, but one of his big attributes is his finishing. It was good for him to get in that position and good for him to get some game time, though he’ll be slightly disappointed that he’s not scored on his debut.”
Bange, 17, is the youth team’s leading marksman this season and has also scored goals in the Central League for the Seasiders.
