Blackpool were left to settle for a point on a frustrating night at the University of Bolton Stadium, as the Seasiders played out a stalemate with Bolton Wanderers.
In a game of very few clear-cut chances, Pool’s best opportunity fell to Liam Feeney in the opening 20 minutes of the encounter, with the winger striking the underside of the bar.
Manager Simon Grayson made just the one change to his starting line-up, with Jordan Thompson absent due to international commitments. Callum Guy was the man to take his place in the middle of the park.
The opening stages of the game lacked any real goal-mouth action, though Bolton’s Jack Hobbs did register a header on target for the hosts.
Liam Feeney almost changed that when he struck the bar from a tight angle, having latched onto a wayward effort from Callum Guy.
Moments later, Matty Virtue tried to blast one into the net from just inside the area, only for Hobbs to slide in with a crucial block tackle.
Just as Blackpool were starting to get a foothold on the game, Daryl Murphy came close to giving Bolton the lead. Luckily Jak Alnwick was well positioned to keep out his low-drilled strike.
With half-time fast approaching, Alnwick was then called upon again, this time to tip a free-kick from Ali Crawford round the post.
Half-Time: Bolton Wanderers 0 Blackpool 0
Space started to open up for Blackpool to counter after the interval, however a few initial opportunities went without an end product.
Bolton then introduced former Pool striker Joe Dodoo off the bench, who nodded wide just past the hour mark.
Dodoo, clearly out to make an impact on his debut, had two further efforts minutes later, with one of them being drilled across goal.
Jay Spearing and Armand Gnanduillet both fired wide as Blackpool pushed to break the deadlock, while a great bit of defending from Curtis Tilt prevented Daryl Murphy from getting in at the near post for Bolton.
Though both sides pushed to try and get something more from the game, the final moments came to nothing, leaving the teams to settle for a point apiece.
