Simon Grayson is looking for his side to be smarter in possession and create more opportunities in the final third against Lincoln City tonight.
The Seasiders have dictated the play in numerous matches recently, however that ball retention must be utilised effectively.
“We probably just need to be a bit savvier and have a bit more guile in the final third,” the manager said. “I think our retention of the ball has been good and our possession has been high, but it’s what you do with it. There’s no point having high possession marks and stats if you’re not going to be too clinical with it.
“I think last weekend was a case in point. We got into some good positions but just didn’t quite have that final pass or cleverness to break the opposition down.”
The challenge posed tonight comes in the form of a Lincoln City side under a new manager and looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat last weekend.
“It’s tough for us to work out what they’re going to do in terms of style of play and the shape they’re going to play. I don’t think you need to be a genius to work out that they’re going to try and rectify what happened last week,” Grayson said.
“They’ll try and be solid. Any new manager who goes in wants to get a base from his defensive strategy and also add a few more goals.
“We’ll give them respect and try and work out when we get the team sheet what they’re going to play, as we do with a lot of teams, but it’s really about us and what we need to improve on.”
