Simon Grayson was pleased to see the goals shared around last night, as Blackpool beat Morecambe 5-1 in the Leasing.com Trophy.
The manager made nine changes for the group stage fixture and handed debuts to Calum Macdonald and Sean Scannell following transfers from Derby County and Bradford City, respectively.
“This team has gone out there because they’ve not played much football recently and other lads have had the opportunity. It was great to see some good, individual performances,” Grayson said.
“Calum Macdonald was Man of the Match in his first appearance for us and he looked very accomplished, and it was great to get Sean Scannell 75, 80 minutes, who looked a threat at times. Joe Nuttall also got another 90 minutes.
“I thought the players had a really good attitude and they worked hard, though I thought in the first-half we could have moved the ball a bit quicker and we were just a little bit complacent in possession.
“It was nice to win the match and score five goals. We saw three of our attacking players – Nuttall, Hardie and Kaikai – get on the scoresheet, which is pleasing. It was nice for Ben Heneghan to get on the scoresheet, then Notts and Feens can fight out whoever is claiming the other one.”
Given the display, the manager may now have a selection headache for the weekend’s match against Coventry City.
“There will be people out of the 18 on Saturday that probably don’t deserve to be. I’ll deal with those situations. All you can do is fight for the opportunity, get a shirt and keep it. If you haven’t got it, make sure you’re working hard every day in training and when you get a chance, take it,” he added.
