Jay Spearing says Blackpool's unbeaten start to the season comes from the high standards set by the manager and players.
The Seasiders have won three and drawn three of their opening six fixtures in Sky Bet League One and currently sit third in the table.
"From day one, when the gaffer came in, we set ourselves high standards and have gone out there week in, week out and shown what we’re about. There is still plenty of room for improvement and we’re working hard on the training ground to show that," the skipper insisted.
The level of performance within the squad has only been enhanced by the competition for a first-team place, with a much-changed side in midweek recording a 5-1 victory at home to Morecambe.
"It shows the depth now that we have in this squad," Spearing said. "The lads who came in on Tuesday did really well and have now given the gaffer a decision to make come Saturday. We want that competition day in, day out and I believe we have a very good side and can also change our formation if needs be."
Blackpool's unbeaten run will once again be put to the test this weekend when coming up against fellow unbeaten side Coventry City. It's a challenge that the players are relishing.
"We’ve heard very good reports about Coventry, they’ve brought in a lot of new players and they’re playing at St Andrew’s. It’ll be a nice pitch to go and play on and we had some good games against Coventry last season. They like to play, just like ourselves.
"If we go and implement the way that we are, the way that we play and do what we’re all about, then I don’t see why we can’t go there and cause a little bit of an upset. We know it’s going to be a difficult, but we go there full of confidence, like they will be at home, so hopefully it will be a good game," he added.
