Harry Winstanley’s late header sealed all three points for the under-18s in a return to league action against Walsall.
The defender struck in the 90th minute to break the deadlock and give Danny Ventre’s side a home victory in the North West Youth Alliance.
After a quiet opening to the game, the first chance of the match fell to Walsall, who won a free-kick out wide. The ball was floated in towards a Walsall striker, however he couldn’t quite get on the end of it.
Blackpool started to work their way into the game slowly. Two chances fell to Ewan Bange. Firstly, Bange couldn’t quite make any contact on Rob Apter’s dangerous cross. Moments later he found space on the edge of the area and shot low towards goal, only to see his effort go just wide.
After the break, more chances came Blackpool’s way. Ewan Bange had time and space to let the ball drop onto his right foot before unleashing a volley towards goal, but the Walsall ‘keeper got down well to save and keep his side in the game.
Then, with time running out, the Seasiders got the winner. Apter whipped a free-kick towards the penalty spot where players were queuing up and Harry Winstanley got there first to rise above everyone and guide the ball into the top corner.
