Neil Critchley has a real selection poser on his hands this weekend, with every player bar Dan Ballard available for selection.
The Seasiders’ Head Coach has rotated his squad to good effect in recent weeks, maintaining a consistency in performances and results.
That means something of a dilemma as to the matchday 18 for Oxford United’s visit to Bloomfield Road.
“Lots of the players are in good form at the moment and we’ve got, pretty much, a full, fit squad to choose from,” Critchley revealed. “I had the book and the pen out deciding what we feel is the best team for the weekend.
“You look at all the scenarios – what if we’re winning, what if we’re losing, what is the best team to play against the opposition – and it’s really interesting and intriguing what you can come up with. Come Saturday, we’ll be ready.”
A host of players sat out the midweek Papa John’s Trophy tie at Fleetwood Town, allowing others to get valuable game-time and impress.
“It’s a relentless programme this season. We’ve got tough games coming up and lots of games coming up in a short period of time. We’ll dip players in and out and freshen them up if it’s the right thing to do. A lot of thought goes into what we do.”
The Oxford United side Blackpool will come up against on Saturday came within 90 minutes of Championship football last season and are now picking up again this time around.
“In their last few performances, they’ve competed with Portsmouth, Hull and Ipswich. They’ve not lost those games and they’ve been very close to winning those games as well. They compete with the best teams in this division and, at some point, they’ll pick up. I just hope that’s not on Saturday against us,” Critchley added.
