Match Preview: Portsmouth (H)

1 December 2020

Blackpool welcome Portsmouth to Bloomfield Road on Tuesday evening to mark the start of a hectic final month of 2020.

The Seasiders face nine matches over the course of the next four weeks, in what could be a crucial month of festive fixtures for Neil Critchley’s side. Five victories from the last six games means the Seasiders come into Tuesday’s fixture on the back of some impressive form, culminating in an emphatic 4-0 win over Harrogate Town in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend.

Blackpool come into Tuesday’s game in 15th position in the Sky Bet League One table; nine points off of the top six.

Portsmouth, meanwhile, are on an impressive run of form themselves coming into Tuesday’s match. Kenny Jackett’s side have lost once in seven games and themselves come into the game on the back of a comfortable FA Cup victory last weekend, when they dispatched National League side Kings Lynn Town 6-1.

Pompey sit in fifth position in the League One table before Tuesday’s game; five points off of Hull City at the summit of the table.

Neil Critchley:

“It’s nice to be back at home after having a long run of consecutive away fixtures. We know it will be a tough test for us, as Portsmouth are the league’s top scorers, but we’re playing well and are in a confident mood coming into the game.

“They’re an experienced team with an experienced manager, who have a clear way of playing. We need to be well organised and nullify their threats.”

Kenny Jackett:

“Blackpool are a dangerous side, particularly going forward. They’ve recruited really well over recent months, and we know it will be a real challenge for us to go there and get something from the game.

“They will be looking to finish in the top six themselves and are in good form just like us, so I’m sure it will be a good game.”
