Maxwell: It Was Just A Matter of Time

Belief Always There In Team and Performances, Says Captain

Chris Maxwell says it was ‘just a matter of time’ until Blackpool’s run of results started to turn, though that doesn’t mean there will be any easing off over the festive period.

The Seasiders face Oxford United at Bloomfield Road this weekend following six wins from seven in Sky Bet League One and having reached the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The belief within the squad has always remained high throughout the ups and downs of the campaign to date, with Pool’s skipper backing his team-mates to the hilt.

“We know how good we are, and we know how good a group we’ve got. I’ve been saying it and saying it all season,” Maxwell insisted.

“It was just a matter of time before those performances and that ability, organisation and effort that everybody puts in everyday was going to shine through. We’re reaping the rewards for that now and we’re enjoying it.

“We’re on a really good run at the moment, but that’s not to say that we can take the foot off the pedal, and don’t recognise the things that have brought us success within games. We won’t rest on our laurels.

“We’ve done things right and we’ve been tough to play against for various reasons. We’ve got to make sure that we continue doing those things and take each game as it comes. We just need to push on and focus on every game.”

Such is the strength within that Blackpool squad that the line-up has been rotated without affecting the consistency of performances in recent weeks.

“If a player was to be left out of the team or the squad, everybody is fully behind everybody and what we are doing. We want to be successful. Simple as that,” the goalkeeper revealed.

The match against Oxford United is the first of back-to-back home games at Bloomfield Road this week, offering the chance to make further inroads in the division.

“Saturday, Tuesdays are a massive opportunity. They’re relentless and tough physically, but we’ve got the squad to cope with that. It’s another chance for us to get points on the board and climb the table,” Maxwell added.
