Report: AFC Wimbledon 0 Blackpool 0

22 February 2020

Blackpool were kept at bay, despite having some good opportunities, in a 0-0 stalemate at AFC Wimbledon.

It was a quiet opening half, with neither side causing much trouble for the opposing goalkeepers.

15 minutes were on the clock when Kwesi Appiah had a good opportunity for the hosts with a header from just eight yards away, but it thankfully went over Maxwell’s goal.

Moments later, Nathan Delfouneso had a good opportunity at the other end. Some excellent work from the Seasiders number seven gave him space by the corner of the penalty area, but his effort was saved by Joe Day in the Wimbledon goal.

In a half of very few chances, the sides went into the interval with the scores goalless.

Blackpool came out for the second half with real impetus and almost found the back of the net in the first ten minutes.

A great cross field ball from Connor Ronan found Gary Madine who got away from his marker at the far post. The striker then flicked the ball first time across goal to Taylor Moore who just fired over from ten yards away.

Five minutes later at the other end, Ollie Turton made an excellent sliding challenge to deny Joe Pigott a shot at goal from inside the penalty area.

Nathan Delfouneso had a fantastic opportunity to give Blackpool the lead on 65 minutes. Connor Ronan was clean through and passed the ball to Delfouneso who only had the goalkeeper to beat, but the forward took a touch to control and then just couldn’t connect to the ball, with another chance going begging for the Seasiders.

Chris Maxwell was forced into a superb save from a free kick from Wimbledon's Luke O'Neill late on, with the goalkeeper diving well to his right to keep the hosts at bay.

It was ultimately a difficult afternoon for both sides, with Blackpool taking a point back to Bloomfield Road.
