A youthful Blackpool reserves side were beaten 3-0 by Morecambe in a Central League fixture at the Globe Arena.
Goals from Michael Howard, Shaun Miller and an unfortunate own goal from Aaron Turner gave the hosts all three points.
Despite the hosts boasting the likes of Kevin Ellison, Andrew Tutte and Adam Buxton in their starting XI, Blackpool really made a game of it in the first half. Ben Tollitt was a constant threat down the left hand side, as was Adi Yussuf up front who had a golden opportunity to score on 15 minutes. A lovely one-two between Yussuf and Tony Weston set the striker up beautifully from six yards out, but the 27-year-old fluffed his lines and couldn’t hit the target.
With 20 minutes gone, Morecambe took the lead. A mix-up in the Blackpool defence gave ex-Preston North End player Michael Howard the space to poke the ball home before Charlie Monks could reach it.
Blackpool were battling well, but found themselves 2-0 down just before the interval, as Shaun Miller picked up the ball inside the penalty area, cut inside and swept home.
Half-time: Morecambe 2 Blackpool 0
Blackpool created some good opportunities in the second half, with Tony Weston, Ben Tollitt and Adi Yussuf causing trouble for the Morecambe defence, but just not being able to find the finish.
Weston had a good chance with 60 minutes on the clock with the ball bouncing in and around the penalty area, but he just couldn’t sort his feet out to apply the finish. Moments later, Morecambe substitute Freddie Price forced Charlie Monks into a good save, with the Blackpool goalkeeper stopping the effort well to his right.
Morecambe secured the victory with five minutes left. A cross on the right from Freddie Price was turned in at the back post by Aaron Turner into his own net.
