The Big Preview: Fleetwood Town (A)

Blackpool Head To Fleetwood Town

6 March 2020

The Seasiders make the short trip along the coast to Fleetwood Town on Saturday afternoon.

Neil Critchley will take the reigns for the first time since being installed as Blackpool’s Head Coach at the start of the week, and will be hoping to take all three points away from Highbury to get off to the perfect start in his new role.

In contrast, Joey Barton took over at Fleetwood Town in July 2018. The 37-year-old guided the Cod Army to an 11th placed finish in his first season. The club have made steady progress under his leadership and currently sit in sixth position in the Sky Bet League One table heading into Saturday’s match.

Both sides come into the match in good form - Fleetwood have won six of their last seven matches in all competitions, whereas the Seasiders secured back-to-back wins for the first time since November last time out in the 2-1 win over Ipswich Town last weekend.

Fleetwood’s only victory over the Seasiders came in this fixture last season in a narrow 3-2 victory for the Cod Army. Of the eight meetings between the two sides, Blackpool have won five, including a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in December.

Team News

Armand Gnanduillet will continue to be monitored ahead of the match after returning to training on Thursday. Sullay Kaikai is unlikely to feature.

Ched Evans returned from suspension last time out for Fleetwood, and scored the only goal in their 1-0 victory at Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening, meaning he is likely to feature.

The Referee

John Busby will be the referee for the match. He was in charge for Blackpool’s 0-0 stalemate at Bolton Wanderers in October.

Admission

Blackpool have sold out their allocation for the match.

A live beamback of the match is also sold out, with up to 500 supporters set to watch the match live back at Bloomfield Road.

No further tickets will be on sale for Blackpool supporters at the match or for the live beamback at Bloomfield Road.
