Getting To Know: Mark Howard

Goalkeeper Answers The Questions

18 May 2020

Currently in his second spell with Blackpool, Mark Howard has made 47 appearances for the Seasiders since returning to Bloomfield Road.

Here's a bit you may not know about him:

Who was your sporting hero growing up?

David Seaman. He made everything look easy. Everything about the way he played in goal I looked up to.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve taken on board?

Just to enjoy it every single day. Our career isn’t that long and I’m towards the back end of mine. I just want to keep on enjoying it, even though I am a big child.

Do you have any pre-match superstitions?

No, I lost a lot of them when I was younger.

Favourite save you’ve made in your career so far?

There was one for Sheffield United that I always remember. It was in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and late on against Charlton I kept the ball out of the top corner. I don’t know how I kept it out, but we went on to reach the semis.

What gloves are you currently wearing?

I wear the Sells Aqua range.

What would you have been if not a footballer?

Maybe a PE Teacher. I like telling people what to do, and I like sports.

What is your favourite TV series?

Breaking Bad.

What is your favourite film?

Step Brothers. All my comedy comes from that film.

Is there a save you’ve watched somebody make that you’d have loved to have saved yourself?

Anything that Manuel Neuer has done in the last 10 years.

Alongside yourself, name another four players who would make up your ultimate five-aside team.

I’m going for a team of goalkeepers, so Manuel Neuer, Edwin Van der Sar, Jose Chilavert who scored goals and a guy called Ronald Waterreus who used to play for Rangers and had the best two feet you’ve ever seen.
