Neil Critchley is looking forward to the start of Blackpool’s FA Cup journey, as the Seasiders head to Eastbourne Borough in the first round.
Blackpool make the trip to the south coast to take on the National League South side, and Critchley is looing forward to what we will be his debut season in the competition.
“The FA Cup first round is always a special weekend, and we can’t wait for it,” he said.
“It will be a tough fixture there. They’ve won a good few games to get to this position and they will be up for it, just as much as much as we will. Blackpool has a wonderful history with the FA Cup, so it means a lot to us to do well in the competition.”
Sunday’s trip to the National League South side presents an opportunity for a cup upset, with the game being broadcast live on BT Sport, and the Head Coach is fully aware of the shock results the FA Cup can produce at times.
“We’re well aware of why the TV cameras are going to be there, and I’m sure they’ll be hoping for some kind of upset,” Critchley said.
“There will be a shock result this weekend – there always is. We have to be professional and do our job the right way, and make sure that cup upset isn’t us.
“We’ve prepared the right way heading into the game. Eastbourne play their home games on astro turf, so we’ve been training on that type of surface in the lead up to the game to ensure we are well equipped to deal with the situation.
“Ultimately, our aim is to go there and get the win to get into the next round of the competition. We’ll be prepared and ready to go.”
