Sky Bet League Two side Harrogate Town host the Seasiders on Saturday afternoon in the second round of this season’s Emirates FA Cup.
This is Harrogate’s debut season in the EFL, after gaining promotion via the National League play-offs at Wembley Stadium in August 2020. The Club has risen through the football pyramid over the past 20 years, playing National League North football just two years ago.
Despite it being their debut season in League Two, Harrogate lie comoftably in 12th position in the table, picking up away victories at Bradford City and Mansfield Town in recent weeks.
This is the second time in the Club’s 106 year history that Harrogate have reached the second round, having made it to this stage in 2012-13. Harrogate have never reached the third round stage in their history.
Simon Weaver’s men defeated Northern Premier League side Skelmersdale United 4-1 in round one to reach this stage of the competition.
Simon Weaver has been the man in charge at Harrogate since 2009, guiding the side from non-league to the Football League.
The 42-year-old also enjoyed a successful playing career with the likes of Lincoln City, Nuneaton Borough and Kidderminster Harriers, before signing on as player-manager at Harrogate in 2009. Weaver retired from playing in 2012.
Jack Muldoon joined Harrogate in 2018 from AFC Fylde, and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Club. A key player in the side’s promotion to the Football League, the forward has scored seven goals in all competitions so far this season, including a brace in a 2-1 win at Grimsby Town last month.
