Match Preview: Crewe Alexandra (A)

16 October 2020

Blackpool are hoping to claim their first victory on the road of the 20/21 season as they travel to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

The Seasiders will be hoping to get a positive result after their 4-1 defeat to Ipswich Town at Bloomfield Road last time out. Though, some positive away performances against Plymouth and Gillingham will give Neil Critchley’s side confidence going into the game ahead of a return to his old stomping ground, where he made one appearance as a player during the 99/00 campaign.

Crewe, meanwhile, will be looking to maintain their three game unbeaten run after their 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic last time out. David Artell’s side have also recorded victories against MK Dons and Newcastle’s under-21’s, beating the latter 1-0 in the EFL Trophy in September.

Youngster Luke Offord scored his first senior goal for the Club, before Harry Pickering and Mikael Mandron secured a statement victory against newly-relegated Wigan, after returning to action following a Covid-19 outbreak among their squad.

Neil Critchley:

“We know it will be difficult. Crewe are a good team at home and they’ve got a clear way of playing. We’ve had a good week in training and we’re confident we can go there and get a result.

“I spent a large part of my coaching career was spent at Crewe, I started playing there when I was a young boy. I’ve got a lot of respect for the people at the Club. I’m looking forward to going there and seeing some familiar faces, but we’ve got a job to do and we’re looking forward to the game.”

Critchley is set to be handed a boost ahead of Blackpool’s trip to the Alexandra Stadium, with Oliver Sarkic and Sullay Kaikai both returning to training this week after recovering from their injuries.
