Blackpool secured a first away victory of the season in an entertaining 2-1 win at Burton Albion.
A Jerry Yates double - his first competitive goals for Blackpool - was enough to secure the win, despite a Daniel Gretarsson own goal in the early stages of the second half.
Steven Lawless tried his luck from distance in the first ten minutes for the hosts, but his effort went high and wide of Maxwell’s goal.
With 12 minutes on the clock, CJ Hamilton had a long-distance strike go over the bar after a direct run at the Burton full-back and cutting inside onto his left foot.
Moments later, Kane Hemmings had a golden opportunity to give the hosts the lead. A ball played forward from Niall Ennis cut through the Blackpool defence, leaving Hemmings with a clean strike at goal, but his effort went over the bar.
With 20 minutes gone, Blackpool broke the deadlock. A fantastic pass from Sullay Kaikai on the counter-attack cut through the Burton backline, with Jerry Yates able to latch onto it and slide the ball past O’Hara to score his first competitive goal for the Seasiders.
Yates was incredibly unfortunate to not find the back of the net again ten minutes later. A lovely one-two pass teed Yates up brilliantly to fire at goal, but his effort from just inside the penalty box smacked the post and bounced away.
The Seasiders were able to see the remainder of the game out, and went into the break a goal to the good.
Half-time: Burton Albion 0 Blackpool 1
Blackpool’s forwards continued to cause real problems in the second half, with Gary Madine and Jerry Yates linking up really well at times.
Burton, meanwhile, were creating half chances of their own as the half went on, and found an equaliser just after the hour mark. Substitute Charles Vernam found space on the left hand side and fed a dangerous ball in from the byline, which was inadvertently stabbed in from Dan Gretarsson.
The Seasiders continued to threaten the Burton goal despite the setback and retook the lead on 73 minutes from the penalty spot. A corner was whipped in and Madine’s header back across goal found Marvin Ekpiteta, who was bundled to the ground from the Burton defence.
Jerry Yates stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and score his and Blackpool’s second of the game.
The Seasiders were able to see the game out and collect a crucial three points on the road.
