Blackpool’s latest addition Luke Garbutt expressed his delight after joining the Club on a free-transfer, following his release from Everton in June.
The 27-year-old becomes Neil Critchley’s 12th addition of the summer and brings a wealth of experience to Bloomfield Road. With fellow defenders Marvin Ekpiteta and Demetri Mitchell also signing deals recently, Garbutt will add to Blackpool’s defensive options for the 20/21 season.
A left-back by trade, the former England Under-21 international made his Premier League debut for boyhood club Everton against Southampton in April 2014. Garbutt enjoyed various loan spells, most recently with Ipswich Town last season.
Reflecting on his permanent move to Bloomfield Road, Garbutt admitted he was excited to get going and is determined to push the Seasiders in the right direction.
“I’m really pleased to be here.”, Garbutt said.
“I’m excited to get back playing football. Me and the gaffer spoke last week, and I really liked what he had to say about the Club, so I’m excited to see what the season brings and hopefully we can push on this season.”
Blackpool’s latest recruit also praised the influence of Neil Critchley, admitting the Head Coach was a big factor in his decision to sign for the Club.
“I really like what he had to say and his plan moving forward for the football club. I feel that the way they play suits my game, so I’m looking forward to getting to know the lads and hopefully integrating myself into the team.
“His experience speaks for itself. He had seven great years at Liverpool, so hopefully he can build that ethos into Blackpool FC.”
Garbutt also spoke positively on the direction of the club and admitted he is looking forward to meeting the players.
“They’re all a good bunch of lads, so I’m looking forward to meeting them today and getting to play with them.
“It’s clear to see that the Club are going in a positive direction and the Head Coach wants players who fit that criteria. It’s something that I was really excited about so I’m just looking forward to get cracking and playing for this football club.”
