Match Preview | Barrow A.F.C. (H)

8 September 2020

Blackpool kick off their EFL Trophy journey tomorrow as they welcome Barrow A.F.C. to Bloomfield Road.

The Seasiders have enjoyed an eventful pre-season since returning to action, including impressive spells against Premier League sides Liverpool and Everton.

A.F.C. Barrow, meanwhile, have enjoyed a successful pre-season ahead of their highly-anticipated season in League Two after being crowned National League champions last season.

The Bluebirds defeated National League North side Southport F.C in pre-season, but most recently suffered a cruel knockout blow as they were defeated on penalties by Derby County in the Carabao Cup.

This will be the second time Neil Critchley’s side have faced Barrow already this season. The Seasiders defeated David Dunn's side 2-1 in pre-season back in August.

The Head Coach

“They’re very well organised and defensively hard to break down. You’ve only got to look at their performance against Derby on Saturday.

“It’ll be a tough game. Any team that puts a lot of players behind the ball and protects the goal is hard to beat. We’ll have to try and find different solutions to that, but we also have to be mindful that we keep the back door shut at the same time.

“We had a really good game against them in pre-season and it’ll be nice to see Dunny (David Dunn) again. It’s a massive chance for us to play at Wembley, so we have to approach these games in the right manner. It’s important we get off to a good start in the competition, so we’re hoping it’ll be a good evening for the Club.

“We came out of the game against Liverpool on Saturday with no injury problems. We trained on Monday and other than two players, we’ve got a fully fit squad.”

Team News

Matty Virtue and summer signing Alex Fojticek are both doubtful for the Seasiders.

As for the visitors, Dunn has no fresh injury concerns ahead of their visit to Bloomfield Road.
