Blackpool host Swindon Town in their 20/21 League One curtain raiser at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.
The Seasiders will be looking to get their first victory of the season after their opening day clash against Plymouth Argyle ended in a narrow defeat. Jerry Yates, CJ Hamilton and Keshi Anderson all came close for the Seasiders in an encouraging display, but Luke Jephcott’s early opener proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Swindon, meanwhile, will be coming to Bloomfield Road full of confidence after they marked their return to League One in style. The Robins put three past Rochdale to get their season off and running in a comfortable 3-1 victory at the County Ground.
Sheffield United loanee Tyler Smith opened his account for Swindon Town inside five minutes, before Anthony Grant and Matt Smith put the hosts in cruise control at the interval. Rochdale did manage to pull one back through Jimmy Keohane’s late strike, but the visitors were outclassed by a clinical Swindon performance.
"Hearing the news that 1,000 fans are coming back to Bloomfield Road on Saturday has given us a tremendous lift. We’re really looking forward to it and hopefully our staff and players can give them something to be proud of, it’ll be great to share it with them again.
"It’ll be a tough test. Playing any newly-promoted team at this stage is difficult because of the momentum they’ve built up from last season. They had a good victory last week, they’ve got a really way of playing attacking football and like to pass the ball like we do, so it’ll be a good game of football.
"Hopefully, we can play in a similar vein that we did last weekend and look to pick up a result this time."
"It’ll be a tough game. I imagine they’ll be expecting to be right up there at the end of the season.
"We played well last weekend, so it’s important we look to build on that. Brett Pitman has been brilliant in training this week, you can see why he has the record that he has and he’s going to score goals. We can certainly cause them problems on the day and that’s what we’ll be looking to do."
Oliver Sarkic has recovered from his injury, whilst James Husband is also being monitored ahead of Saturday’s clash.
As for the visitors, defenders Akinwale Odimayo and Mathieu Baudry have both been ruled out for the visit to Bloomfield Road.
