Preview: Accrington Stanley (H)

13 April 2021

Accrington Stanley are this evening’s visitors to Bloomfield Road, as Blackpool look to make it 15 games unbeaten in Sky Bet League One.

Accy come into Tuesday’s game on the back of conceding five goals at home to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, condemning them to their sixth loss in ten games. After the weekend, John Coleman’s side are in 12th position – 19 points clear of relegation and just six off the play-off places with seven games to play.

Blackpool, meanwhile, could extend their unbeaten run further by avoiding defeat this evening, having not lost a single game since the 2-0 defeat at Ipswich back in February.

The Seasiders come into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw at Lincoln on Saturday, where the side conceded two late goals at Sincil Bank to end their run of five straight away victories.

Blackpool are in fourth in the Sky Bet League One table, two points clear of seventh placed Charlton, though they do have a game in hand.

Team News:

Demetri Mitchell could return to the side after missing the trip to Lincoln on Saturday. Gary Madine and Keshi Anderson continue their recovery.

Last Time We Met:

The Seasiders picked up a point on the road in a 0-0 draw at the Wham Stadium back in December.

The Key Player: Dion Charles

A product of Blackpool’s Academy, Dion Charles has gone on to become one of League One’s hottest prospects since his move from Southport in August 2019. The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for Accy so far this season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions, which has caught the eye of his native Northern Ireland. Charles went on to represent the Green and White Army for the first time in their recent international friendly against the USA.

Neil Critchley:

“They’re obviously off the back of a bad result from the weekend, but the last time they had that against Peterborough, they went to Oxford and won there.”

“It shows you the ability they have in the team and the type of team they are. John Coleman and his coaching staff have proven over many years that you shouldn’t underestimate them. They’re used to playing against the odds at times, so we won’t be underestimating the type of game we have, that’s for sure.”
