Preview: Gillingham (H)

4 April 2021

Blackpool welcome Gillingham to Bloomfield Road on Easter Monday with just ten league matches of the season remaining.

The Seasiders come into Monday’s match on the back of an impressive 2-0 win at Swindon Town on Good Friday, which extended the side’s unbeaten run to 12 matches in Sky Bet League One.

Following that win, Neil Critchley’s men moved back up to sixth place, yet still have up to three games in hand over some teams in the league table.

Gillingham themselves are on an impressive run of form, having not lost in their last five matches. Steve Evans’ side sit just two points behind the Seasiders in eighth place after a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic in their last match on Wednesday.

Team News:

Blackpool could welcome James Husband to action on Monday. The defender has missed the past couple of matches through injury. There were no fresh injury concerns raised following Friday’s win at Swindon.

Last Time We Met:

Gillingham secured the win at the Preistfield Stadium back in September in a 2-0 win. Dominic Samuel grabbed both goals on the afternoon.

The Key Player: Vadaine Oliver

29-year-old Vadaine Oliver signed for Gillingham in August 2020 from Northampton Town. Oliver has 16 goals to his name this season, which include braces against Ipswich, Swindon and Bristol Rovers and the crucial goal in Wednesday’s win over Wigan Athletic.

Neil Critchley:

“It will be a really tough game on Monday. Gillingham are in really good form and since Christmas they’ve picked up a lot of points. We’re in good form ourselves and have good home form, so it’s another game we are looking forward to.”

Sponsors:

Thanks to both NRG Fleet Services and Stephen Tew Estate Agents, who are the virtual match and ball sponsors for Monday’s game.
