Blackpool welcome Shrewsbury Town to Bloomfield Road on Saturday, looking for an immediate bounce back to winning ways.
The Seasiders’ 16 game unbeaten run stretching back to February ended on Tuesday night, in a narrow 1-0 loss at Rochdale. Despite the defeat at Spotland, Neil Critchley’s men still sit in fifth; three points clear of seventh with games in hand.
The Seasiders are the only unbeaten side at home in the top four divisions of English football in 2021, having not tasted defeat on home turf since a 1-0 loss to Charlton back in October last year.
Shrewsbury head to Bloomfield Road on the back of three straight defeats, the last coming in a 2-1 home loss to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night. Salop currently sit in 18th position in the Sky Bet League One table, seven points from safety with five games to go.
With manager Steve Cotterill continuing his recovery from a long spell out with Covid-pneumonia, assistant manager Aaron Wilbraham will continue to take charge of the side for Saturday’s game.
Daniel Gretarsson continues his recovery from his dislocated shoulder sustained in the win over Sunderland. Kevin Stewart, Keshi Anderson and Gary Madine are getting closer to a return.
Last Time We Met:
Shrewsbury secured all three points in a 1-0 win at Montgomery Waters Meadow in late December.
The Key Player: Shaun Whalley
33-year-old Shaun Whalley has been with Shrewsbury since 2015, going on to make over 200 appearances for the Club. The forward has eight goals to his name this season, with his last goal coming against Plymouth on Easter Monday.
“You can sense the frustration in the players after suffering defeat on Tuesday. There is a huge desire to put the wrongs right. Our next focus is on Shrewsbury and what we need to do to win that game. We want to be as consistent as possible over the final few matches of the season.”
