Blackpool's impressive undefeated run of 16 matches ended at Spotland on Tuesday evening, in a 1-0 loss.
In what was a real battle out on the pitch, with chances few and far between, Rochdale's crucial goal came mid-way through the second half thanks to Ollie Rathbone's strike.
Aaron Morley put in a good cross from the left for Rochdale on ten minutes, with Jake Beesley there to poke at goal. The ball looked to be heading into the bottom corner, but Chris Maxwell was there to dive low to his left and tip it away for a corner, which then came to nothing.
With half an hour gone, Blackpool had their best opportunity of the match. Sullay Kaikai whipped in a great corner kick to the danger zone, which was met by a Blackpool head, but it went just wide of Jay Lynch’s goal.
As the half petered out, Sullay Kaikai had a powerful shot from outside of the area blocked by Rochdale’s O’Connell, but the half ended quietly and goalless.

The Seasiders came out for the second half with added impetus and aggression. Both Jerry Yates and Ellis Simms had good efforts on goal in the opening five minutes, but Yates’s first time effort from a Luke Garbutt cross went just wide, whereas Simms’s powerful strike from just inside the area was palmed away from Jay Lynch.
With 20 minutes remining, the hosts took the lead. Some build up play from the left gave Ollie Rathbone the space to take a touch on the edge of the area and curl a good strike low into the far corner, past the despairing Maxwell.
Young striker Brad Holmes was brought on to make his Blackpool senior debut in the final few minutes in an effort to grab a late goal, but it wasn't meant to be and the Seasiders slipped to their first defeat since February.
