Blackpool welcome bottom of the table Burton Albion to Bloomfield Road this evening, looking to get back to winning ways at the first time of asking.
The Seasiders will want to bounce back in style from Saturday’s frustrating 2-0 loss at Ipswich, and have home form behind them, having picked up 16 points out of a possible 18 at Bloomfield Road since mid-October.
Burton Albion are currently rock-bottom of Sky Bet League One, having won just four league games so far this season. The side sit five points adrift of safety, though will be in a buoyant mood coming into this evening’s match having secured a dramatic late win over Hull City on Saturday.
Despite their difficult first half of the season, Burton have been lifted by the reappointment of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as manager in the New Year, having also won his first match in charge away at Gillingham on 9 January.
Blackpool come into tonight’s fixture in 13th place – nine points off of the play-offs at the half-way stage of the season.
Matty Virtue will be assessed ahead of the match, after picking up a knock at Ipswich. Gary Madine is being monitored, along with CJ Hamilton and Keshi Anderson.
Last Time We Met:
The Seasiders secured all three points in the reverse fixture back in October thanks to a Jerry Yates brace in a 2-1 victory to secure a first away victory of the season for Blackpool.
The Key Player: Kane Hemmings
28-year-old forward Kane Hemmings has scored eight times for the Brewers so far this season, with his goals providing Burton the hope needed in their fight against the drop. Hemmings joined Burton in the summer of 2020 from Scottish side Dundee. The former Rangers man also counts Barnsley, Oxford United and Notts County on his list of former clubs.
“After any defeat, the best way to bounce back is to get back out there and turn things around. It’s up to us to show the right response against Burton, and we’ve built up a good home record recently.”
