Preview: Peterborough United (H)

12 February 2021

Third placed Peterborough United travel to Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon, with Blackpool looking to continue their recent impressive home form.

The Seasiders have picked up 16 points from a possible 18 at home since mid-October, which include five clean sheets. Saturday will be Blackpool’s first match since the loss at Ipswich last weekend, after Tuesday’s match with Burton Albion was called off due to a frozen pitch.

The Seasiders go into the fixture with games in hand over the majority of sides in the division.

Saturday’s visitors come into the match having won their last two matches and sit comfortably in third place, just three points behind top-of-the-table Lincoln City.

Despite their lofty position in the league table, Peterborough have struggled for consistency on the road so far this season, picking up 17 points from a possible 39.

Team News:

Matty Virtue and Ethan Robson could make a return to the squad. Gary Madine continues to be monitored, whilst CJ Hamilton and Keshi Anderson remain sidelined.

Peterborough have no injury concerns coming into the match.

Last Time We Met:

The Seasiders secured all three points in dramatic fashion in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, in a 2-1 win at the Weston Home Stadium. Jerry Yates and a 90th minute Gary Madine winner secured all three points, with Blackpool the only side to secure a league win at Peterborough so far this season.

The Seasiders were also victorious in Posh’s last visit to Bloomfield Road in a 4-3 victory in November 2019.

The Key Player: Jonson Clarke-Harris

Jonson Clarke-Harris, who joined Peterborough for an undisclosed fee from Bristol Rovers at the start of the season, has impressed since his arrival at the Weston Homes Stadium. The 26-year-old has scored 15 goals so far this season – more than double than any of his team mates - to sit second in the top scorers list in the league this season, just one goal behind Plymouth Argyle’s Luke Jephcott.

Neil Critchley:

“We were disappointed to not play on Tuesday night, but that can happen in football. We’re looking forward to what should be a really good game with Peterborough. We played extremely well in the reverse fixture at their place earlier in the season and deservedly won the game, so we need to play as well as we did there on Saturday afternoon and look to secure the win.”
